Quantifying fluvial habitat changes due to multiple subsequent floods in a braided alpine reach

چکیده

During flood events, river topography and fluvial habitats can change drastically, potentially affecting the ecological status. In case of multiple floods, whether each single event modifies habitat characteristics in same direction or not, is still an open question. We gathered high quality topographical data one braided Alpine reach before, between after floods. Considering full dynamics hydrological regime affected by hydropower production, we calculated water depth flow velocities distributions for relevant discharge conditions using hydrodynamic modelling. then four indicators related to diversity, quantity, connectivity stranding risk. Despite consistent depositional morphological trend, diversity metrics returned pre-floods values initial deviation. The quantity did not show a clear trend towards alternative state. Habitat prevalence varied seasonally with release, also changed markedly possibly species composition. possible intrinsic variability several which aid management restoration floodplains.

Quantifying invertebrate resistance to floods: a global-scale meta-analysis.

Floods are a key component of the ecology and management of riverine ecosystems around the globe, but it is not clear whether floods have predictable effects on organisms that can allow us to generalize across regions and continents. To address this, we conducted a global-scale meta-analysis to investigate effects of natural and managed floods on invertebrate resistance, the ability of inverteb...

A Rare Presentation of Isolated Oculomotor Nerve Palsy due to Multiple Sclerosis in a Child

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an inflammatory, demyelinating, neurodegenerative disorder of the central nervous system (CNS) of unknown etiology. Isolated oculomotor nerve palsy is found rarely in children with MS. We present a case of MS in 10-year-old boy, who had bilateral ptosis associated with medial gaze restriction. The extraocular muscle examination demonstrated bilateral adduction pa...

Stream Ecosystem Response to Multiple Experimental Floods from a Reservoir

The effects of multiple experimental floods in the same year on the ecology of a river (River Spöl) below a large reservoir were investigated. In the flood year (2000), three floods of different magnitude (10 m/s on 15 June, 25 m/s on 5 July, and 10 m/s on 10 August) were implemented, each lasting 7–8 h. Regulated baseflow discharge was maintained at less than 2.5 m/s. Samples of macroinvertebr...

Quantifying Bird-HaBitat using a relevé MetHod

The relevé method, a standardized, floristically based vegetation sampling technique developed in Europe, has become a vegetation measurement method used worldwide. Although the relevé method was developed by plant ecologists to classify vegetation, ornithologists have begun to use the method for bird-habitat studies, sometimes including modifications to better sample structural features of a h...
